The spirit & Fabric of the Emerald Isle… Making the Riverdance Green Velvet Devore !

I had been involved in textile design, hand-painting silk satins, charmeuse, crepes & velvets, and making wild evening wear with those unique fabrics for a few years… when Joan Bergin approached me to see if we would make some of the Green Velvet devore she had seen in one of our dresses, for the costume of the lead dancers in the title dance of the hit Riverdance show, that she was entirely re-designing for the grand Broadway opening! It was such a shock !…and such an honour!.. I will never forget her poise, kindness and encouragements! I just happened to have moved to Ireland when Riverdance hit the screen at the Eurovision.. what an unforgettable phenomenon it was to witness.. and for my mother Christine and I, to design those New-grange inspired scrolls and hand-paint the ubiquitous « Riverdance Green », has been a privilege ever since… making us part of the Spirit & Fabric of our adoptive celtic land!
